Furman Heads To Wofford This Weekend For Final Road Matches

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman volleyball team is set to play its final road matches of the regular season this weekend when it travels to Spartanburg for a two-match Southern Conference series versus the Wofford Terriers at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

The series gets underway Friday evening at 6 p.m. and concludes Saturday at 4 p.m.

Fans can follow the action on www.furmanpaladins.com via live stats. Both matches are being streamed via paid subscription on ESPN+. Updates will be posted on the Furman volleyball Twitter page (@FurmanVB).

For the third time this season, the Paladins (12-13, 6-8 SoCon) are coming off a weekend that saw them split a two-match SoCon series. Furman went 1-1 hosting UNC Greensboro at Timmons Arena. The Paladins dropped the series opener, 3-2, last Friday before responding with a 3-1 triumph on Saturday.

In the 3-1 series-opening loss on October 30, Izzy Castelloe recorded at least 20 kills for the second time this year after leading Furman with 20 on .486 hitting. Kacie Moore hit .417 and finished with 12 kills. Ashley Stein totaled eight kills and 11 digs, while Tennyson Gorman and Amber Watson both had eight kills. Morgan Baldridge dished out 26 assists and Emily Navarro provided 19 assists and nine digs. Kennedy Seekford led the team with 17 digs.

The Paladins concluded the contest hitting .234 and held a 64-59 advantage in digs. Furman also collected 60 kills and 53 assists while posting 14 blocks. Six different players recorded a block led by Gorman's seven.

Moore notched her first career double-double the following day after hitting .375 and finished with 11 kills and a career high 10 blocks. Castelloe led the Paladins offensively with 16 kills on .270 hitting while Lauren Haynes contributed 10. Gorman posted nine kills and six blocks. Baldridge dished out 25 assists and Navarro turned in 24 assists and seven digs. Defensively, Seekford led all players with 24 digs and Stein added 11.

Furman wrapped up the match hitting .170 as a team and held the Spartans to a .106 clip. The Paladins led 58-46 in kills, 57-42 in assists, and 67-62 in digs. Furman's season best 17 blocks were the most since also having 17 in a five-set win over Samford on September 30, 2023.

Wofford currently sits atop the SoCon standings at 19-7 overall and 12-2 in the SoCon. The Terriers, who are under the direction of 12th-year head coach Lynze Roos, enter the weekend on a five-match winning streak.

Furman and Wofford have previously met 76 times in program history with the Paladins owning a 56-20 advantage in the all-time series, which dates to the 1979 season.

Furman plays its final home matches of the season next week, November 12-13, hosting Samford at Timmons Arena. Prior to Friday's match, the Paladins will hold their Senior Day ceremony prior to first serve.
