CLEMSON, S.C. – Alexa Spallina had a game high 10 points to lead the 8
th-ranked Clemson Tigers to an 18-1 victory over the Furman women's lacrosse team in the Paladins' 2026 season opener, Tuesday evening from the Clemson Lacrosse Complex.
Clemson improves to 2-0 on the season while Furman drops to 0-1 overall.
Spallina was one of seven Tigers that netted a goal in the contest, finishing with six goals and four assists. Regan Byrne contributed four goals and Emma Penczek three. Marleigh O'Day dished out three assists. Goalies Tessa DeLuca, Gigi Adamson, and Ava DeLyra combined for five saves.
Preseason All-Big South pick
Lily Toole scored once for the Paladins while
Zoe Milmoe,
Shae Insinga, and
Sailor Henderson each picked up two ground balls. Insinga and
Caroline Smith both won one draw, and
Rachel Sbei and preseason All-Big South selection Skylar Hilmar caused one turnover. In goal, Henderson totaled eight saves.
Clemson opened the contest with three goals over the first five minutes before Toole got Furman on the board in the first quarter. Her first goal of the season, and 65
th of her career, cut the Paladins' deficit down to 3-1 at the 6:45 mark. Furman's defense held the Tigers without a goal over the final 10 minutes of the opening quarter after forcing five turnovers.
Clemson closed out the contest scoring the last 15 goals to put the final score at 18-1.
The Paladins concluded the game with nine ground balls and eight shots.
Furman hosts its first home contest of the season next Friday, February 20, welcoming Austin Peay to Paladin Stadium for a 6 p.m. contest.
