Greenville, S.C. – Lipscomb plated seven runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 14-4 victory over Furman in the final game of the Purple & White Classic Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Softball Stadium.
Elizabeth Martin powered the Bisons' offense going 3-for-4 with a double, homer, and 6 RBI while leadoff hitter Chapel Cunningham went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the first inning. After Martin drove in two runs in the top of the first, she doubled to plate another in the second as Lipscomb (4-5) built a 9-0 lead before
Katie Peeler scored on
Rachel Hawkins' double to get the Paladins on the board in the bottom of the frame.
The teams traded runs in the fourth inning and Martin capped a four-run fifth for the Bisons with a three-run blast to extend the margin to 14-2.
Brooke Beam (1-3) grabbed the victory after allowing three earned runs on nine hits over five innings. She did not surrender a walk while fanning one batter.
Starter
Jamison Noonan (0-3) took the loss for the Paladins. The Fort Mill, S.C., native gave up six runs on two hits and two walks while retiring just one batter.
Eden Frederick went 3-for-3 at the plate while Peeler finished 2-for-3 with a pair of runs.
Kate Stoltzfus launched her second homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the bottom of the fifth.
Furman (1-8) is back in action next weekend at the Trojan Invitational in Troy, Ala.
