Quinnipiac Rallies To Defeat Furman On Sunday, 16-14

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Quinnipiac scored 11 second half goals Sunday afternoon and rallied for a 16-14 victory over the Furman women's lacrosse team in non-conference action at Paladin Stadium.

Furman drops to 3-5 on the season while Quinnipiac improves to 5-3 overall.

For the second consecutive game, Allie Kandel led the Paladin offense with six points on six goals and Lily Toole also compiled six points on three goals and three assists. Kandel, a junior from Wilbraham, Mass., added a career high eight draws, picked up one ground ball, and caused one turnover. Reynolds Hester totaled three points on two assists and one goal while Emily Muir scored twice. Cassie Larsen and Charlotte Kent both picked up three ground balls and Grace Gibson caused two turnovers. In goal, Madigan Brewer finished with five saves and two ground balls.

Mia Delmond (five goals, two assists), Cate Bendowski (three goals, three assists), and Peyton Choma (three goals, two assists) combined for 18 of the Bobcats' 27 points in the contest. Delmond scored a team high five goals and Bendowski and Gabriella Provenzano dished out three assists. Goalie Shannon Alden totaled four ground balls and three saves.

Quinnipiac outscored Furman 11-4 in the second half, netting six goals in the third quarter and five in the fourth. The Bobcats had cut the Paladins' lead down to 10-8 less than seven minutes into the third quarter when Toole and Kandel scored back-to-back goals in a two-minute stretch to put Furman ahead, 12-8, at the 5:01 mark.

The Paladins were limited to just one goal by Muir over the next 12:32 as Quinnipiac built a 15-13 lead with 6:36 remaining in the contest. Hester's goal less than a minute later cut Furman's deficit down to one, but Provenzano sealed the Bobcats' win following her goal with 3:27 to go.

The Paladins trailed 3-2 after the first quarter and responded by scoring eight times in the second to hold a 10-5 lead at halftime. Kandel registered four goals in the second period including three in a span of 2:22. Shae Insinga, who recorded her 100th career point on Sunday, extended the lead to 10-4 at the 5:44 mark.

Furman concluded the contest with 28 shots, 16 ground balls, 15 draws, and six caused turnovers.
