GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman men's tennis team suffered its first Southern Conference loss of the season to the Chattanooga Mocs, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center.
Furman drops to 5-11 on the season and 2-1 in SoCon play. The win moves Chattanooga to 8-8 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Mocs swept their way to the doubles point, winning all three matches to take a 1-0 lead. Martin Delnido and Carter Ramthun picked up a 6-1 win over
Alex Han and
Finn Pollard at No. 3 and Cortland Grove and Jakub Jupa clinched the point in the No. 2 contest with a 6-1 triumph versus
Nicolas Dispas and
Nico Snyder. Julian Franzmann and Kristof Kincses closed out doubles at No. 2 with a 6-3 victory against
Evan Duggal and
Landon Ecarma.
The Paladins rallied to tie the match at 3-3 following singles wins by Duggal at No. 4,
Walker Allen at No. 5, and Ecarma at No. 6. Chattanooga took a 2-0 lead before Duggal put Furman on the board with his 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 against Grove. Following a win by the Mocs at No. 2, the Paladins the evened the score at 3-3 after Ecarma topped TJ Ryerson playing in the No. 6 contest, 6-4, 6-3, and Allen defeated Kincses at No. 5, 7-5, 6-1.
Delnido captured the match for Chattanooga with his 6-2, 6-4 victory versus Dispas at No. 3.
