GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman men's tennis team rolled past The Citadel Bulldogs, 6-1, in Southern Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center.
The win improves the Paladins to 6-11 overall and 3-1 in the SoCon. With the loss, The Citadel drops to 4-18 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.
Furman jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point for the sixth time in the past seven matches. The Paladins swept all three contests beginning at No. 2 when
Evan Duggal and
Landon Ecarma topped Tucker Hendrix and Nick Stroumpis, 6-1. In the No. 3 match,
Alex Han and
Finn Pollard clinched the point with their 6-0 triumph over Reece Beckendorf and Anthony Osipov.
Nicolas Dispas and
Nico Snyder, playing at No. 1, closed out doubles with a 6-4 win against Ted Bagwell and Brady Gober.
In singles, Furman reeled off six consecutive victories to secure the 6-1 win. The Paladins received victories from Dispas, Duggal, Ecarma, Han, and
Walker Allen. Duggal defeated Beckendorf, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 with Allen following at No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory versus Stroumpis. Playing at No. 5, Ecarma captured the match for Furman topping Hendrix in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Han tallied a 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Graham Hardin at No. 6. Dispas picked up the Paladins' final win at No. 2 with his 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Bagwell.
