GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Furman men's tennis team suffered a 4-2 non-conference defeat to the Presbyterian College Blue Hose, Tuesday afternoon at Mickel Tennis Center.
Furman drops to 6-12 on the season while Presbyterian improves to 9-5 overall.
The Paladins fought back in doubles to win two out of the three matches and clinched the point, taking a 1-0 lead. In the No. 2 match,
Evan Duggal and
Landon Ecarma held off Dario Navarro and Daksh Prasad, 7-5. The Blue Hose would answer at No. 3 when Thomas Anderson and Eduardo Valentin topped
Alex Han and
Finn Pollard by a similar 7-5 score. The No. 1 tandem of
Nicolas Dispas and
Nico Snyder captured the doubles point for Furman when they won in a tiebreaker, 7-6(6) over David Mamalat and Matija Samardzic.
Playing without two of their top three singles players, the Paladins dropped four of the five completed matches as Presbyterian secured the 4-2 victory.
The Blue Hose won three straight matches at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6 to hold a 3-1 lead. Samardzic topped Dispas in the No. 1 contest, 6-1, 6-4, and Mamalat followed at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph versus
Theophile Joly. In the No. 6 match, Valentin won in three sets over Pollard, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.
Ecarma put Furman on the board at No. 4 singles when he rallied back at No. 4 to register a three-set win over Navarro, 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Prasad won the match for Presbyterian at No. 3 following a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory in three sets versus
Walker Allen.
