GREENVILLE, S.C. – On the strength of the men's soccer team's run to the NCAA College Cup, Furman University is currently tied for eighth place in the latest men's Capital One Cup standings.
Furman paces all schools in the Southern Conference and state of South Carolina, compiling 30 points to presently tie with the University of Mississippi and University of Montana.
The Paladins' 30 points are the product of the men's soccer team's brilliant 2025 campaign that saw former head coach, and now Furman Athletics Hall of Famer, Doug Allison's squad claim both regular season and SoCon Tournament championships, as well as NCAA Tournament triumphs over Western Michigan, Hofstra, and Portland en route to the program's first appearance in the Men's College Cup in Cary, N.C. Furman fell, 3-1, to eventual national champion Washington in the semifinals to complete the season with a 16-2-5 record and No. 3 final national ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. Allison and his staff would go on to be selected the National Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches and Diego Hernandez garnered United Soccer Coaches All-America honors.
Under the direction of SoCon Coach of the Year Robert Gary, men's cross country captured a SoCon-record 13
th consecutive league championship in 2025. Furman saw six players capture first team All-SoCon accolades in Albert Velikonja, Chris Knight, Bryn Woodall, Luke Taylor, Rives Boltwood, and Matteo Tonnos. Second team honors went to Colton Kempney and Tripp Roemer. Knight competed in the NCAA Cross Country Championship following a 20
th place performance at the Southeast Region Championship.
Men's basketball, led by head coach Bob Richey, ran through the SoCon Tournament as the sixth seed and earned the program's eighth tournament championship in program history and second in four years. The Paladins picked up wins over No. 3 Samford, No. 7 UNC Greensboro, and No. 1 East Tennessee State, earning a No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament and faced No. 2 UConn in Philadelphia, Pa. Alex Wilkins was a second team All-SoCon pick and Ben Vander Wal an all-defensive team pick. Wilkins garnered first team NABC all-district honors and is a finalist for both the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year and Kyle Macy Awards.
The winning Division I men's and women's programs will receive $500,000 in scholarship donations and the Capital One Cup Trophy.
