GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman kept control of the Pinson Cup with a 7-0 sweep of Wofford Tuesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

Bobby and Dixie Pinson, beloved friends of both the Furman and Wofford programs, have given the trophy and a generous donation in honor of the rivalry between the two schools.  The trophy stays with the winning school until the winner of the next season's match is determined, and the Paladins have been awarded the trophy each year since its inception in 2005.

With the victory, the 72nd-ranked Paladins improve to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in league matches, while the Terriers drop to 9-7 overall and 2-3 in the SoCon. 

Furman swept the singles matches to score the opening point.  Freshmen Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren, who rank 38th nationally, beat Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal, 6-2, at flight one, and freshman Bianca Ceroni and junior Macy Hitchcock posted a 6-3 advantage over Chloe Elliott and Ella Suk at flight two.  At number three, freshmen Lily Doherty and Molly Robinson defeated Katie Godfree and Marie Henriksen, 6-2.  

The Paladins won all six singles matches in straight sets.  Warren topped Agster, 6-3, 6-3, in the top-seeded contest, and Murphy blew past Bernthal, 6-1, 6-1, at flight two.  At number three, Hitchcock made quick work of Godfree, 6-1, 6-1, and Ceroni breezed past Suk, 6-1, 6-1, at flight four.  Robinson held off Elliott, 6-4, 6-4, in the number five match up, and Doherty defeated Henriksen, 6-1, 6-2, at flight six.

Furman will close out the home schedule Friday when the Paladins entertain Chattanooga at 11 a.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
