GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The 71st-ranked Furman women's tennis team will conclude the regular season Saturday by traveling to East Tennessee State for a showdown for the Southern Conference regular season title and the tournament's number one seed. First serve between the SoCon's two unbeaten teams is set for 11 a.m. at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex in Johnson City, Tenn.
Furman improved to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in SoCon play after defeating Chattanooga, 4-3, on Friday. Freshmen Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren, who competed at the NCAA Doubles Championship in the fall, are ranked 44th nationally in doubles, while freshmen Sasha Dimitrov and Murphy are ranked 88th nationally after notching spring wins over Iowa and Austin Peay.
Both Murphy and junior Macy Hitchcock are undefeated at 6-0 in SoCon singles matches. Murphy has 14 singles wins this spring, while Hitchcock and Bianca Ceroni each have logged 10 singles victories.
The Bucs are 13-6 overall and 6-0 in the league. Most recently, No. 29 Charlotte topped ETSU, 4-0, on Saturday, snapping the Bucs' three-match winning streak, which featured victories over Mercer (5-2), Chattanooga (7-0), and Samford (5-2).
The Paladins lead the all-time series with ETSU, 39-4, after winning both meetings last season. Furman took the regular season meeting, 5-2, in Greenville to clinch the regular season title then beat the Bucs, 4-3, in the SoCon tournament title match in Chattanooga.
