Furman Athletics Excels In Latest APR Report

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Thirteen Furman sports topped the national average Academic Progress Rate (APR), and nine scored perfect multi-year APRs of 1,000, according to a report recently issued by the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).

In the Southern Conference, the Paladins led the league with nine total teams with a score of 1,000 including women's basketball, women's cross country, men's golf, women's lacrosse, softball, volleyball, men's tennis, women's tennis, and women's track. Furman's average APR was 995.

Two Paladin sports – men's basketball (995) and women's soccer (995) – recorded scores of 995 or better. Women's golf (989) and men's soccer (989) also performed at or above the national average.

The overall national average APR is 986.

The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25 academic years.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.

Since 2020, a portion of NCAA revenue has been distributed to members based on the academic achievement of student-athletes, including APR scores.

A full list of APRs for each team can be accessed by using the APR searchable database.
