Greenville, S.C. – Bri Pinasco scored less than five minutes into the second half and Furman notched its second straight shutout with a 1-0 victory over UNC Asheville in non-conference women's soccer Sunday afternoon on Seagraves Field at Stone Soccer Stadium.
Hayden Barnett sent a long ball over the top down the right side and Pinasco entered the edge of the box before lining a shot past the UNCA goalkeeper and into the left-side netting at the 49:20 mark for the lone goal of the match. The score marked Pinasco's third of the week and fourth of the season.
"Playing our second match in less than 48 hours is a challenge mentally and physically," said Paladin head coach
Andrew Burr, who guided his team to a 9-0 victory over Bob Jones on Friday night. "I thought we responded well and played our best soccer of the day over the final 45 minutes. That challenge will really help prepare us for some tough SoCon weekends later in the season."
Pinasco forced a sprawling save in the opening half and
Riley O'Bryan was denied a chance to double the Paladin lead on a tremendous save by Asheville goalkeeper London Phoenix on a one-versus-one situation midway through the second half. Phoenix posted five saves on the day.

Reese DeJong stopped two shots, the only two attempts on goal by the Bulldogs (1-2-2), to earn the shutout for the Paladins. Furman held a 9-8 edge in total shot attempts and 6-2 advantage in shots on target.
The Paladins (3-2-0) return to action Thursday, September 3, when it hosts the Presbyterian Blue Hose. Kickoff at Stone Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. Admission is free to all regular season men's and women's soccer matches at Stone Stadium.
