GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Paladin women's tennis team recorded eight wins Friday in the opening day of the 39th annual Debbie Southern Fall Classic, which is being held this weekend at the Mickel Tennis Center on the campus of Furman University in Greenville, S.C.
The Paladins won four doubles matches in the opening day. Sophomores Elle Warren and Lillie Murphy recorded two flight one victories to advance to Saturday's flight championship match. The Paladins blanked Taylor Goetz and Seri Nayuki of Georgia Tech, 6-0, in round one then beat South Carolina's Jana Stojanova and Frances Pate, 6-4, in the second round.
Also at flight one, sophomores Sasha Dimitrov and Bianca Ceroni teamed up for a 6-4 advantage over Indiana's Gabby Gregg and Chase Boyer in round one. At flight three, sophomores Lily Doherty and Molly Robinson defeated Shravani Chennamsetty and Risa Ueno of Illinois, 6-2, in the opening round.
In singles action, Furman also picked up victories in four contests. Murphy topped Maryland's Lucia Donnelly, 6-1, 7-6(5), at flight two, and Ceroni came from behind to defeat Sabritt Dozier of Georgia Tech, 4-6, 7-6(8), 6-0, at flight three. In the flight five draw, Robinson held off Georgia Tech's Elena Karantali, 7-6(2), 7-6(7), and freshman Shreya Amirichetty made her collegiate singles debut with a 7-6(2), 7-6(7) win versus Indiana's Chase Boyer.
All eight teams competing in the tournament were ranked in the final 2026 ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings: N.C. State (8), South Carolina (29), Maryland (36), Illinois (48), Wake Forest (59), Georgia Tech (65), Furman (67), and Indiana (70).
On Saturday, doubles play will begin at 9 a.m. One round of singles will follow beginning at approximately 10:30 a.m. The tournament will conclude with one round of singles on Sunday starting at 9 a.m.
