Greenville, S.C. – Davidson's Brooke Roumy scored on a left-footed strike from outside the box in the 56
th minute to lead the Wildcats to a 1-0 victory over Furman on the Paladins' Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Stone Stadium.
Roumy collected the ball deep on the right side and dribbled past the edge of the 18-yard box before unleashing a curling shot from 25 yards out that landed in the upper left-hand corner at the 55:16 mark to break the scoreless tie. Furman turned up the pressure for the final 33 minutes and outshot Davidson 11-4 in the second half, but goalkeeper Grace Stair recorded saves on shots from
Riley O'Bryan,
Camryn Zimmerman, and
Jaleah Simmons to preserve the clean sheet for the Wildcats.
"We had sixty-three percent of the possession today, but weren't able to create many shots on goal," said Paladin head coach
Andrew Burr. "We've got to have a little more of a killer instinct in the box going forward as we begin conference play next weekend. As always, I'm proud of our seniors and it was an outstanding day to celebrate them and their families. Our focus will turn now to chasing a SoCon championship."
Stair registered four saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Wildcats while Furman's
Reese DeJong totaled six saves in the loss. Furman managed a 14-13 edge in total shots, but Davidson compiled a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal for the afternoon.
The loss snapped Furman's five-match unbeaten run and dropped the Paladins to 5-3-1 on the season. Davidson improved to 4-3-1. Prior to kickoff, Furman honored seniors
