GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman director of cross country/track and field and men's head coach Robert Gary announced today that Logan Roberts has been promoted to associate head coach for both the Paladin men's and women's programs.

"Logan's promotion is overdue," said Robert Gary.  "His commitment to the program and staff, as well as our student-athletes, has been invaluable.  We're excited to elevate him and know it positions our program for even greater success."

Roberts, now in his ninth year at Furman, has served in key roles for both the men's and women's programs since the start of his tenure in Greenville.  In cross country, he has assisted on 18 Southern Conference Championships, in addition to seeing five cross country All-America performances in the last six seasons by Dylan Schubert (2022, 2023, 2024) and Bethany Graham (2021, 2022). 

"From the day I arrived on campus in 2018, I have believed in and worked toward providing our student-athletes with an experience that pushed them toward excellence in all aspects of their lives," said Roberts.  "The program's mission, set in motion by the Gary's well before I joined the staff, is as compelling and inspiring as ever given the current landscape of collegiate athletics. 

"I believe we can continue to compete and excel at the highest levels of Division I as a mid-major," continued Roberts.  "This promotion represents the stability of the student-athlete experience that we can offer to motivated, hardworking and exceptional students who want to join a program that is uniquely positioned for great success in the coming years." 

Furman athletes have captured the league's highest award three times since Roberts joined the staff -- Gabbi Jennings (2021) as SoCon Female Athlete of the Year and Cameron Ponder (2022) and Schubert (2025) as SoCon Male Athletes of the Year -- and the men's and women's programs have set ten SoCon meet records across the indoor and outdoor seasons since Roberts' arrival.  The men earned an All-America performance across all three seasons in 2024, capped off with an Olympic Trials appearance by Carson Williams.

"Coach Roberts has been such an important part of our staff, and his expertise and leadership have had a noticeable impact on the success of both our men's and women's programs," said women's head coach Rita Gary.  "I'm incredibly grateful for what he brings to Furman, and I'm excited to build even greater success together in the years ahead."

Over his last four seasons at Furman, Roberts has worked with the men's program under Robert Gary to help re-write the Paladin record book in every event from the 800m to 10,000m in the outdoor season and 400m to 5,000m indoors, including the distance medley relay and the 4x400m relay.

After claiming the 2025 SoCon Cross Country Championship, the Furman men's team finished as runner-up at the 2026 SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships.  The Paladins scored 129 points, marking the highest indoor championship point total in program history, and brought home a trophy for the first time since 1976 when Furman won the men's SoCon indoor meet.  To cap off the meet's second day, Furman won gold in the men's mile for the tenth-straight year.  During the outdoor season, Bryn Woodall advanced to the NCAA East Preliminaries in the 1,500m, while Albert Velikonja represented the Paladins at the meet in the 5,000m. 

A 2011 graduate of Baylor with a bachelor's degree in health science studies and pre-physical therapy, Roberts went on to earn a master's degree in sport administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013.
