GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Sophomore Olivia Hasselbach (-5) fired a career-best 67 to tie for second, while Furman (-5) also finished the day in second in Friday's opening round of the 52nd Annual Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,335 yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

The Paladins are just two shots off the lead with 36 holes to play.  Alabama (-7) leads the tournament, while Xavier (-3) and High Point (-3) are tied for third.  

A native of Tampa, Fla., Hasselbach teed off on No. 5 in the day's shotgun start and birdied her first hole.  After turning at even par following a bogey on No. 7, she played a flawless round with five additional birdies, including three-straight from No. 18 around to No. 2 to close out the day.  Hasselbach is one of four players tied for second, one stroke behind individual leader Isabel Brozena (-6) of Xavier, who carded a 66 on Friday.

Freshman Rebecca Lee (-1) notched a 1-under 71 with three birdies to finish the round tied for tenth, while senior Audrey Ryu (E) was even with four birdies, tying for 15th.  Junior Eva Ringwald (+1) recorded a 73 with three birdies to tie for 22nd, and junior Jenna Madden (+3) tied for 35th after finishing the round with a 75 and a birdie on No. 12. 

Three additional Paladins are playing as individuals.  Sophomore Ava Hanneman (+2) tallied a 74 with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 12 and No. 13, and is tied for 27th, and junior Andrea Marin Raga (+5) shot a 77 with three birdies to tie for 49th.  Senior Kelsi Mauzy (+8) is tied for 59th after carding an 80 with three birdies.

Saturday's second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start.  Furman will tee off on No. 1 through No. 5 and will play in a group with Alabama, Xavier, and High Point.  The tournament will conclude on Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
