CONWAY, S.C. – The Furman men's tennis team recorded a total of four wins this weekend at the CCU Battle at the Beach hosted by Coastal Carolina at the Stevens Tennis Complex.
The Paladins were one of four teams competing in the two-day event along with Campbell, Coastal Carolina, and South Carolina State.
The tournament featured two rounds of doubles and one round of singles on Friday, followed by two rounds of singles on Saturday.
On Friday, Furman captured a 4-2 singles win over Coastal Carolina and then split a pair of doubles contests with Campbell and Coastal Carolina. The Paladins topped Campbell by a 4-0 score before falling to Coastal Carolina, 3-1.
Furman received singles wins against Coastal Carolina from
Walker Allen,
Bardo Bucknell,
Nicolas Dispas, and
Finn Pollard. Allen earned a three-set victory against Gustav Anderson, 7-5, 3-6, 11-9, and Bucknell defeated Itamar Tapiro in straight sets, 6-0, 7-6(5). Dispas won 6-2, 6-4 over Bassil Touban and Pollard topped Iannis Fernandes, 6-3, 6-3.
The Paladins swept all four doubles matches versus Campbell. Buckell and
Nico Snyder earned a 6-4 win over Finn Logue and Charlie Ruffell while
Evan Duggal and
Evan Rigsby secured a 6-4 triumph against Heath Paul Waters and Vlad Guyot-Sinnest.
Nicolas Dispas and
Alex Han would record a 6-2 victory versus Arush Gupta and Juan Francisco Munoz. Pollard and
Landon Ecarma would take on Campbell's Mikolaj Kowal and Rick Neike of South Carolina State and picked up a 6-2 win.
Against Coastal Carolina, Duggal and
Sam Fancutt defeated Neike and Ruffell, 6-3.
Furman swept both singles matches on Saturday, defeating Campbell, 5-2, and South Carolina State, 5-1.
The Paladins collected singles victories versus Campbell from Allen, Bucknell, Han, Powers, and Rigsby. Allen registered a 7-6(3), 6-4 win against Waters with Bucknell winning in straight sets over Sinnest, 6-0, 6-2. Rigsby defeated Kowal, 6-4, 7-6, and Han earned a 6-4, 6-2 triumph versus Ruffell.
Graham Powers tallied a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Logue.
Bucknell, Dispas, Han, Pollard, and
Theophile Joly all had singles wins over South Carolina State. Bucknell and Pollard both picked up three-set victories with the other three coming in straight sets. Bucknell secured a 6-2, 1-6, 10-7 win versus Andrii Borodatiuk and Pollard topped Vanja Petrov 6-7(3), 6-3, 10-4. Dispas won, 6-0, 6-2, over Julius Augunas and Han defeated Neike, 7-5, 6-2. Joly posted a 7-5, 6-4 triumph against Nithis Nallusamy.
Furman returns to action next weekend, October 2-4, at the SoCon Fall Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.
