2025 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll

2024 — In his first season at Furman used a strong preseason to claim the starting job at tight end, taking over for All-SoCon performer Mason Pline, a free agent signee of the San Francisco 49ers...caught two passes for 47 yards in the Paladins’ season opener against FBS 6th-ranked Ole Miss...earned his second nod the following week against Charleston Southern before exiting the game early in the first quarter with a season ending ankle injury...named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll for the 2024-25 school year.

2021-23 — Saw action in 21 games over three seasons at Florida State....named to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Honor Roll three times, including his redshirt 2021 campaign...earned his undergraduate degree in sport management from FSU in 2024.

High School: 2021 graduate of Blythewood (5A) High School...football coach was Jason Seidel...served as team captain and earned MVP, all-region, and all-state honors...caught 57 passes for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2019, his junior years...ranked as South Carolina’s No. 4 prospect his senior year...Shrine Bowl selection.

Personal: Full name is Joshua Frederick Burrell...born Febuary 3, 2003, in Columbia, South Carolina...son of Evay and Fred Burrell...has a twin brother, Jordan, who joined the Paladin program as a graduate transfer in the summer of 2025 following a career at Lenoir-Rhyne....has a younger brother, Jaylen...enrolled in Furman’s graduate program for Innovation & Leadership.
