Kip Owens

Owens joined the Furman staff in the summer of 2024 after five seasons at NCAA Division II Flagler University. He spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Saints before being promoted to associate head men's basketball coach on April 21, 2022.

Working alongside head coach Chad Warner, now an assistant for the Paladins, Owens helped guide the Saints to an 18-3 overall record, 11-1 league mark, Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament titles, and a trip to the national semifinals in 2020-21. The following season, Flagler went 23-8 and made a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.

“We are excited for Kip Owens to join our staff as an assistant coach,” said Richey. “I have been following Kip’s career dating all the way back to his playing days at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Kip’s knowledge of our offensive system, ability to develop post players in our system, and ability to connect will be a huge asset to our program.”

In his final season in St. Augustine, Fla., Owens led Flagler to a 20-11 mark and an appearance in the Peach Belt Conference finals.

Owens played at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for head coach Lennie Acuff (currently the head coach at Lipscomb University). During his four years at UAH, the Chargers made three NCAA Division II Tournament appearances and hosted two regionals. UAH won the Gulf South Conference Tournament twice (2015 and 2017) and won or shared the regular season title twice (2014-15 and 2015-16).

As a prep standout, Owens played for a legendary coach in Terry Tippett at the Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, Tenn. The forward played on a state championship team as a sophomore and paced his team to a state finals appearance as a senior.

Owens received his bachelor's degree in marketing from UAH and later he earned his master's from the same institution.
