Matthew Thomas

Matthew Thomas is now in his second year as assistant speed, strength, and conditioning coach at Furman after joining the program in March of 2019.

Thomas currently directs all aspects of performance with Paladin men’s tennis and soccer teams while also serving as the primary assistant to football, where he works alongside director André Bernardi.  Among his many duties he is charged with organizing, collecting, and interpreting data for football testing in order to track progress and create player profiles, and administering the staff’s internship program.  In addition he assists in educating student-athletes on matters of general nutrition and training.

He has also worked with Furman’s men’s golf program.

Prior to coming to Furman he worked as a personal trainer at Greenville’s Eastside YMCA for four months after serving as a strength and conditioning intern at Byrnes (S.C.) High School.

Thomas attended North Greenville University, where he was a Founder’s Scholar and played football for four years.  He served as team captain and was a Gulf South Conference All-Academic Team selection in 2018, his senior year.

He was accorded a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science in Dec. of 2018.

Thomas currently holds Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.
