Following a highly successful coaching tenure at Oregon’sLake Oswego High School, Laura Caldwell joined her husband on theFurman staff in 2010. 

The former 800m school record holder at Florida State providesadditional guidance for the Paladin middle and long distancerunners. 

After graduating from Florida State with both a bachelor’sand master’s degree, Caldwell excelled as a professionaldistance runner, winning the Racing South road racing Grand Prixseries four times, qualifying for the US Olympic Marathon Trialstwice, and winning US National Masters championships at 5,000m andthe Half Marathon. Among her many accomplishments, she placed amongthe top ten at Atlanta’s famous Peachtree Road Race threetimes, won the 1992 Seattle Marathon, and earned three silvermedals at the World Masters Games in 1997 (1500m and 5000m on thetrack and over 8K cross country). 

At Lake Oswego Caldwell’s girls’ cross country teamsqualified annually for the Oregon 6A State meet.  She coachedthe state runnerup in the 1500m (2009) and 3000m (2009 and2010).  She also coached the Lakers to a sub 10:00 clocking inthe 4x800m.
