Furman women's basketball head coach Pierre Curtis announced on July 18 the hiring of Jauwan Scaife as assistant coach.

"Jauwan is someone I've watched closely in the business for the last 10 years," said Curtis.  "He has a knack for helping players reach their potential on the court and his basketball IQ is top notch, so it was a no-brainer for me to have him and his family join our Furman family."

"I'm excited and grateful to be able to join the Furman family," added Scaife. "I have a lot of respect for the culture Pierre has established and created. I am ready to get started!"

Scaife comes to Furman following one season at Virginia Tech, where he played a part in the Hokies' 25-8 campaign that featured an Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championship (14-4 ACC) and NCAA Tournament second round appearance.

A native of Muncie, Indiana, he spent the 2022-23 season at Ball State, his alma mater. The Cardinals went 26-9 (14-4 MAC) and competed in the second round of the WNIT.

Scaife returned to his alma mater after spending two seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Utah State. During the 2021-22 season, the Aggies finished the season ranked third in offensive rebounds per game (12.43) and fourth in assists per game (14.20).

Prior to Utah State, he worked at Murray State from 2018 to 2020, where he enjoyed roles in player development, recruiting, offensive schemes and game plans while also assisting with in-game adjustments. During the 2018-19 campaign, he helped the Racers to nine conference victories, the most by Murray State since the 2008-09 season. Scaife also played a part in Evelyn Adebayo and Macey Turley earn All-Ohio Valley Conference honors.

He spent the 2017-18 season as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Evansville, where he worked primarily with perimeter players.

Scaife was also an assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State for two years, during which time the Redhawks advanced to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the first time in seven seasons.

An outstanding collegiate player, Scaife lettered all four years (2010-13) at Ball State, where he landed MAC All-Freshman Team and second team All-MAC laurels as a senior.  He finished his career 14th in program history with 1,326 career points, becoming the 26th 1,000-point scorer in Ball State history. He also connected on 203 3-pointers, breaking the school record in the final game of his career, and completed his tenure ranked seventh in program history in career minutes played (3,368), seventh in games played (120), and ninth in games started (93).

He completed his master's degree in physical education from Ball State in 2013 while also holding the role of graduate assistant for two years with the Cardinals.

Scaife, who starred at Muncie Central High School, is the cousin of former Ball State and NBA standout Bonzi Wells.

He and his wife Rebecca have a daughter, Jewell.
