Julia Adams Career Records

Junior Year (2020-21): 
Adams was named to the All-SoCon first team for both singles and doubles after rising as high as 77th in the national singles rankings.  Adams and Katarina Kozarov, who combined to rank as high as 16th nationally in doubles — a program milestone — claimed the program’s first doubles win at the NCAA Doubles Championship, defeating No. 11 ranked Ally Bojczuk and Julia Lilien of Notre Dame, 7-6(6), 6-3.  Adams and Madison Dillon peaked at 18th nationally in doubles, as well.  Adams recorded a 19-6 overall singles record and 5-1 conference mark, while adding a 22-4 doubles record with a 6-1 mark against league foes.  Her 22 doubles wins tie for fourth on the Furman all-time list, while her 20 doubles victories with Katarina Kozarov tie for the second-best season tally in Paladin history.  Adams’ 41 combined singles and doubles wins are third on Furman’s all-time season records list.  The Paladin duo of Kozarov and Adams combined for 44 career wins, which ties for the all-time Furman lead, and their .862 career winning percentage is the ninth-best in Furman history.  Adams recorded key singles victories versus Auburn (6-2, 2-6, 6-4 – flight two), Alabama (6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) – flight two), No. 16 Wake Forest (4-6, 6-1, 7-6(7) – flight two), and 18th-ranked South Carolina (6-0, 6-3 – flight two).  She also scored Power 5 wins over Virginia Tech, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, and Clemson, 6-3, 6-1, also at flight two.  Adams defeated ETSU, 6-1, 6-3, to conclude the regular season then beat the Bucs, 6-4, 6-3, in the finals of the SoCon Championship.  In doubles, Adams and Kozarov posted victories over Mississippi State (6-3), Alabama (6-3), No. 16 Wake Forest (6-2), and Virginia Tech (6-4), all in the top-seeded doubles spot.  The Paladin team defeated No. 18 UCF’s 60th ranked doubles team, 6-4, and Clemson, 6-1, also at flight one.  In the opening round of the NCAA team championship, Adams and Kozarov beat #32 Wake Forest’s top team, Eliza Omirou and Carolyn Campana, who ranked 27th, 6-3.  Adams was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team, and the ITA All-Academic Team. 

Sophomore Year (2019-20):  Adams recorded a 13-3 singles record playing and flights one and two and an 11-2 doubles record, all at flight one.  She went 5-0 at flight one singles with key victories over Liberty and Chattanooga and was 8-3 at flight two singles, where picked up wins versus Georgia Tech, 6-2, 6-2, and Louisville, 6-4, 6-2.  Adams, who put together a 10-match winning streak to end the season, held on for a three-set victory, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, against Lipscomb, and defeated Middle Tennessee (6-3, 6-3) and Marshall (6-2, 6-3), both in straight sets.  She won at Liberty, 7-5, 2-6, 7-5, and versus VCU, 7-6(8-6), 6-3.  In doubles, Adams teamed with Madison Dillon to rank as high as 23rd nationally and partnered with Katarina Kozarov, rising to 21st nationally.  Adams won her final 11 doubles matches of the shortened 2020 season, taking down Notre Dame (6-3), Michigan State (6-3), Louisville (1-0), Middle Tennessee (6-2), and VCU (6-3), among others.  Adams was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team, and the ITA All-Academic Team. 

Freshman Year (2018-19):  Adams was voted the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and was selected to the All-SoCon first team for doubles and the SoCon All-Freshman Team.  She tallied a 20-4 overall singles record and a 6-1 SoCon mark, playing in the middle of the lineup and primarily at flight three.  Adams won seven of eight matches to open the season, including a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 come from behind win over Georgia State and a three-set victory versus Liberty.  She went on to notch victories in 13 out of 14 matches beginning with a 4-6, 7-6, 1-0(10-7) advantage over Middle Tennessee on Feb. 23 and continuing through the Paladins’ win versus Samford in the SoCon semifinals on April 19.  During that span, Adams put together nine-consecutive straight-set victories.  She teamed with Katarina Kozarov at flight one doubles, and the Paladin duo was ranked as high as 40th nationally.  Adams and Kozarov tallied a 17-4 overall record and 6-1 SoCon mark with dominant wins over Louisville (6-1), Middle Tennessee (6-3), and Winthrop (6-2).  The Paladin doubles team won 12 of 13 matches from Feb. 23 versus MTSU through the opening round of the SoCon Championships, downing both Mercer and ETSU, 6-4, in crucial league match-ups.  Adams was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Prep/Personal:  A four-star recruit by www.tennisrecruiting.net, Adams was the top-ranked player in Tennessee and ranked 14th in the Southeast.  She achieved a 69th-place national ranking among players in her graduating class.  Adams was a state doubles finalist as a freshman in 2015 and won district and region doubles championships as a freshman and sophomore.  Her junior season she captured district and region singles championships.  An all-state selection for doubles in 2015 and 2016, Adams was named the Bearden team MVP as a sophomore and has helped her team to a 40-7 record and two state runner-up finishes over the past three seasons.  She boasted a 57-6 singles record and 50-2 doubles mark during her prep career.  Julia Adams was born on September 23, 1999, in Jamestown, Tenn.  She is the daughter of Charles and Ulyana Adams.  Her sister, Helen Fisun, played tennis at Haverford College, while her brother, Charlie Adams, currently competes on the tennis team at Hillsdale.  Adams is majoring in politics and international affairs.
