Biography

Junior Year (2009-10): Arguello was chosen to compete in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships during the fall season, where she compiled a 2-2 record as the nation’s top collegiate players competed in the ITA’s first national event of the season.  She was named to the All-Southern Conference first team for singles after compiling a 16-5 overall record and a 9-1 league mark at the number one singles position.   Arguello teamed with Lauren Kline for second-team all-conference honors at number one doubles after posting a 5-2 conference mark in the top doubles spot.  She was chosen the SoCon Player of the week for the weeks of March 23 and April 20.  She ended the season by winning 14 out of her last 15 matches.  Arguello was a member of the ITA All-Academic team, the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team, and the SoCon Academic Honor Roll. 

Sophomore Year (2008-09):  Arguello finished the season ranked 90th in the ITA rankings after being named to the All-Southern Conference first team for singles and doubles.  In singles play, she compiled a 16-7 overall record and a perfect 10-0 mark against league compeition in the number two position.  Arguello played in the number one doubles spot with Laura Gioia, recording a 16-8 overall record and a 9-1 conference record.  She also teamed with Brooke Mosteller for one additional doubles win.  Arguello was named to the ITA All-Academic Teamand the SoCon Academic Honor Roll. 

Freshman Year (2007-08): Arguello racked up a 17-4 singles record at the No. 2 spot, going undefeated in the conference with a 9-0 singles mark, and earning Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors. She swept through the SoCon in singles, defeating all of her opponents in straight sets. Arguello also went undefeated in league doubles matches, going 8-0 with partner Lauren Osborne. She earned first-team all-conference honors in singles, and second-team honors in doubles. She was also named Player of the Week for the week of April 16.

Prep/Personal: Monica Arguello was one of only 20 five-star recruits in the country and had a national ranking as high as 19. Arguello played for coach Paul Walker at George Jenkins High in Lakeland, Fla. She was the 3A state champion in 2006 and 2007 and the Florida Individual State Champion in 2004, 2006, and 2007. As a senior in 2007, she was named to the All-American team.  Arguello was also named the 2006 Polk County Female Athlete of the Year. During her prep career, she led her team to a top five ranking in the state of Florida as well as a semifinal appearance at the G18 USTA National Championship in Tallahassee. Monica is the daughter of Marta and Ricardo Arguello and was born on September 4, 1988 in Long Island, New York.
