Lady Paladin Volleyball Downed 3-0 by Eastern Washington

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Furman's Lady Paladin volleyball team fell 32-30, 30-16, 30-8 to the Eastern Washington Eagles Friday in the opening match of the University of Iowa Invitational.

Ally Hock led the Furman offensive effort with eight kills in the match, but the Eagles shut down middle hitter Julia Fredrickson and ouside hitter Whitney Purser, outblocking the Lady Paladins 11.0 to 2.0. Senior libero Rosey Cashman and Purser each totaled seven digs in the match, while Purser served up the Lady Paladins' lone ace.

The Eagles of Eastern Washington, by contrast, hit .302 as a team and served up nine service aces for the match. Lizzy Mellor topped EWU's hitting efforts with 13 kills, while Ashley Jensen added 10.

Furman, 3-5 on the year, will return to action at 5 p.m. today with a match against Chicago State.
