#27 Clemson Holds Off #60 Furman 4-3

Greenville, SC - The 60th ranked Furman women's tennis team was narrowly defeated 4-3 by 27th ranked Clemson on Saturday at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center. The loss drops Furman to 2-5 on the year with Clemson improving to 3-1.

Clemson grabbed the early 1-0 advantage with wins in all three doubles matches. In singles play Furman picked up three victories but fell just short as Clemson also secured three singles victories. In flight three Furman's Lauren Osborne defeated Maria Brito 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 while fellow Lady Paladin Bonnie Baird downed Kathi Gerber 7-6(2), 6-2 in flight five. At No.6 Clemson's Marie Scriba retired after dropping the first set to Lauren Tomory 6-2 for Furman's third victory.

Furman returns to action Tuesday, February 28 with a 4:30 PM match against Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, CA.
