The 67th ranked Furman Paladins opened their Southern Conference schedule with a 7-0 win over Wofford Wednesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. With the win the Paladins evened their record at 9-9 dropping the Terriers to 6-8, 3-3 in conference play.
The Paladins got off to a quick start, picking up wins in all three doubles matches. At No.1 Ben Pauluhn teamed with Greg Maarschalk for an 8-6 victory over Chris Barlow and Andrew Stubbs while fellow Paladins Brian Crook and Bo Ladyman defeated Michael Barber and Alex Fridzon 8-5 in flight two. In the flight three match Furman tandem Andy Juc and Scott Kahler downed Scott Collins and Jeff Muthig 8-6.
After capturing the 1-0 advantage, the Paladins picked up three quick singles victories to seal the match. In flight four Bo Ladyman downed Scott Collins 6-1, 6-2 while Daniel Knause hit his way past Richard Cahi 6-0, 6-2 at No.5. In the flight six match Chris Gilli eased by Michael Barber 6-0, 6-1. With the match in hand, the Paladins added three more singles victories to complete the shut out. At No.1 Ben Pauluhn defeated Andrew Stubbs 6-2, 6-4 and Andy Juc won his flight two match over Chris Barlow 6-4, 6-2. In the final match Greg Maarschalk fought through a second set tie-breaker for a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over Alex Fridzon.
The Paladins travel to Statesboro, Ga. On Saturday for a 1:00 PM match against Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern.
