The Furman men's tennis team shut out Davidson 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at Covington Courts. With the win the Paladins improved to 14-10, 5-1 in Southern Conference play, dropping the Wildcats to 9-9, 2-5 in conference play.
Despite dropping the flight one doubles match, the Paladins were able to capture the early 1-0 lead with wins in flights two and three. At No.1 Davidson's Ethan Jaffee and Flaviu Simihaian picked up an 8-2 win over Ben Pauluhn and Greg Maarschalk. In flight two Brian Crook and Bo Ladyman teamed up for an 8-5 victory over Phillip Compeau and Joe Cheany while fellow Paladins Andy Juc and Scott Kahler defeated Daniel Bermeo and Matt Hartman 8-5 in flight three.
Furman went on to pick up all six singles matches in straight sets to record their sixth shut out on the year. At No.1 Ben Pauluhn downed Flaviu Simihaian 6-0, 6-4 and Andy Juc hit his way to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Daniel Bermeo in flight two. Playing at No.3 Greg Maarschalk defeated Ethan Jaffee 6-1, 6-2 while Bo Ladyman cruised by Jay Chitty 6-0, 6-1 at No.4. Daniel Knause won his flight five match over Matt Hartman 7-6(3), 6-0 and in the final match in flight six Chris Gilli battled for a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory over Phillip Compeau.
The Paladins return to action on Saturday, April 8 when they host The Citadel at 1:00 PM.
