Furman Rolls Past The Citadel 6-1

Greenville, SC - The Furman men's tennis team won five singles matches in straight sets to claim a 6-1 victory over The Citadel Saturday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center. The win improved the Paladins record to 15-10, 6-1 in Southern Conference play and puts them in position to capture a share of the Southern Conference lead with a win over College of Charleston tomorrow.

Furman jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with wins in all three doubles matches. In flight one Ben Pauluhn teamed with Greg Maarschalk for an 8-2 victory over Daniel Dossetor and James Eason. Paladin teammates Brian Crook and Bo Ladyman defeated David Lara and Nick Medica in flight two while Andy Juc and Scott Kahler downed Derek Jose and Ananda Sawmynoden in flight three both by a score of 8-3.

Furman quickly put away the match with straight set victories in the first five singles matches. At No.1 Ben Pauluhn ousted Daniel Dossetor 6-4, 6-0 while in flight two fellow Paladin Andy Juc claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ananda Sawmynaden. Bo Ladyman recorded a 6-4, 6-1 win over David Lara in flight four and Daniel Knause hit his way to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Nick Medica in flight five. In the flight six match Chris Gilli cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Derek Jose. The Citadel picked up their only point on the day with a win at No.3 where James Eason defeated Greg Maarschalk 6-3, 6-3.

The Paladins return to action on Sunday, hosting College of Charleston at 1:30 PM.
