Lady Paladins Defeat Charlotte for Second Straight Road Win

Charlotte, N.C. - The Furman women's tennis team picked up its second road victory in as many days, defeating the Charlotte 49ers 5-2 at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Paladins (7-8) have now won six of their last seven matches. Charlotte (6-5) has never beaten Furman in 17 tries.

Furman won two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Senior Lisa Bornt-Davis and sophomore Lauren Tomory topped Kathy Robey and Yana Stoeva, 8-3, at flight three. Senior duo of Bonnie Baird and Jacqueline Eckert secured the point for the Lady Paladins with an 8-6 win over Koren Fleming and Michelle Alexander at number two.

In singles action, Tomory continued her outstanding play as of late, beating Fleming, 6-1, 6-1, at flight four. She has won three straight matches and eight of her last nine. Sophomore Laura Gioia improved her spring mark to 13-2 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Ana Spivakovsky at the top spot. Natasa Manojlovic topped Yana Stoeva, 6-4, 6-1 at position five, and Baird pulled off a 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 win over Kathy Robey at flight two.

Furman returns home to host Southern Conference foe Chattanooga on Saturday, March 24 at 1 p.m. The Lady Paladins also welcome back 26 former players for an Alumni Reunion on Saturday.
