ATLANTA, GA. -- The Furman Lady Paladins tennis team saw its season come to an end Saturday with a 4-0 loss to nationally third-ranked Georgia Tech in the 2007 NCAA Atlanta Regional played at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.
Making its fourth straight trip to the NCAAs and eighth overall, Furman, the Southern regular season and tournament champion, finishes its season with a 16-10 record. Atlantic Coast Conference champion Georgia Tech, which improves to 24-4 with the victory, will face the winner of Arizona/Kentucky match in the regional final Sunday at noon.
Furman dropped the doubles point as Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic fell to the nation's third-ranked doubles tandem of Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray, 8-3, and Lauren Tomory and Lisa Bornt-Davis lost an 8-2 decision to Tech's Tarryn Rudman and Kirsten Flower at No. 3 doubles.
The Lady Jackets made quick work of Furman in singles as Rudman claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Manojlovic at No. 6 and Christy Striplin topped Tomory at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1. Georgia Tech closed out the match at No. 3 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over by Amanda Craddock over Bonnie Baird.
