The 69th-ranked Furman men's tennis team claimed the Southern Conference regular season title with a 5-2 win over Davidson on Saturday.
In doubles action, the Paladin swept matches at all three flights. The team of Andy Juc and Chris Motes defeated Ethan Jaffee and Flaviu Simihaian 8-7 at flight one, while Bo Ladyman and Jordan Walters topped Phillip Compeau and Eric Noble 8-4 at flight two, and Chris Rhyne and Andrei Chvetsov earned an 8-5 victory over Sam Burns and Walker Lyons at flight three.
In singles action, Furman earned wins at the numbers one, two, three, and five spots to clinch the match. At the top spot, Juc defeated Simihaian in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. At flight two, Ladyman topped Noble 6-3, 6-4, while Daniel Knause earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jaffee in flight three. Jordan Walters rounded out the wins for the Paladins with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Burns at flight four.
With the win, Furman improves to 13-10 overall and 9-0 in the Southern Conference, while Davidson falls to 14-7 on the season and 5-4 in league play. The Paladins will enter the SoCon tournament with the number one seed.
