The Furman women's tennis team improved to 11-5 on the season and remains atop the Southern Conference with a 5-0 league record with a 7-0 win over Appalachian State on Wednesday.
The Paladins took the early lead with three straight doubles wins. At the top spot, the team of Laura Gioia and Natasa Manojlovic defeated Anja Gugger and Laura Janka 8-2. In the number two spot, the Paladin tandem of Lauren Osborne and Monica Arguello topped Anna Cotton and Monica Tomas 8-0, while Jessica Preeg and Lauren Tomory defeated Lindsay King and Amanda Cash 8-0 at the number three spot.
Furman completed the sweep by winning all six singles matches in straight sets. With the loss, Appalachian State falls to 6-9 and 1-6 in conference play. The Paladins take the court again on Saturday with a home match against College of Charleston.
