Lady Paladins Drop 7-0 Decision at #11 Clemson

Clemson, S.C. - The Furman women's tennis team fell 7-0 to the eleventh-ranked Clemson Tigers at the Clemson Indoor Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Paladins (0-3) have an extremely challenging schedule, with all three of their opponents ranked in the top 35 in the country. Clemson improved to 5-0 on the season.

Clemson earned the doubles point with two 8-0 victories at the number two and three spots. With the point already determined, Furman's Laura Gioia and Monica Arguello gave Ani Mijacika and Keri Wong all they could handle at number one doubles, but fell 9-8 (5).

The top two singles matches featured four players ranked in the top 50 and the closest matches of the afternoon. No. 4 Mijacika topped No. 9 Gioia by a score of 6-4, 6-2 at number one. Clemson's Josipa Bek, ranked 10th in the country, pulled off a 7-6 (5), 6-2 victory over No. 37 Arguello. The Tigers won the remaining singles matches in straight sets.

Furman will return home to host #33 Wake Forest on Saturday, February 7 at noon.
