BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- The Samford women's tennis team snapped Furman's 100 match Southern Conference regular season winning streak with a 6-1 win over the Paladins at the Samford Tennis Center on Saturday. The streak lasted exactly 12 years and dated back to March 27, 1998, when UNC Greensboro handed Furman a 5-4 loss.

Furman's lone singles win came in the number one spot, where junior Monica Arguello defeated Taylors Morgan 7-5, 3-6, 10-5. At number two singles, Andrie Meiring beat freshman Lauren Kline 6-3, 6-4, while Madelie van Rensburg beat senior Jessica Preeg 6-3, 6-1 at number three singles. In the fourth singles match, Stephanie Parkison defeated freshman Michele Stanford 7-6(7-3), 6-4. Rebecca Kirven beat sophomore Susan Bitetti 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 at number five singles, and Lindsey Mallory beat junior Jennifer Betts 6-2, 6-3 in the sixth singles match.

Samford won the doubles point after recording wins at number one and number two doubles. Mallory and Morgan combined to defeated Preeg and Kline 8-5 at number one, while Kirven and Meiring defeated Betts and Arguello 9-7 in the second doubles match. Furman's Stanford teamed with freshman Olivia Maurice for a 9-8(7-5) win at number three doubles.

Furman (9-6, 2-1 SoCon) will play at Chattanooga Sunday at 10 a.m.
