Results

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The College of Charleston women's tennis team defeated Furman, 6-1, Wednesday afternoon at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. The Paladins' lone point came at number two singles, as freshman Lauren Kline beat Emma Hayman, 6-1, 6-1.

The Cougars won the doubles point, with Holly Dowse and Hayman combining for an 8-3 win over junior Monica Arguello and Kline at number one doubles, and Laura Borza and Caroline Newman posting an 8-2 victory over freshmen Olivia Maurice and Michele Stanford at number three doubles. The Paladins recorded a win at number two doubles, where senior Jessica Preeg teamed with junior Jennifer Betts to defeat Kinsey Casey and Irene Viana 8-2.

College of Charleston won the remaining five singles matches, with three matches lasting three sets. Dowse defeated Arguello 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 at number one singles, while Newman beat Preeg 6-1, 6-0 at number three singles. Casey posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over Sanford at number four singles, and Borza defeated sophomore Susan Bitetti 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the number five singles match. Keely Mulligan recorded a 6-7, 7-2, 7-1 victory over Betts at number six singles.

Furman (11-7, 4-2 SoCon) will play host to Elon on Saturday at 11 a.m. With the win, College of Charleston (16-9, 9-0 SoCon) clinches a share of the SoCon regular season championship and the top seed in the SoCon Tournament.
