Burlington, Iowa – Matt Broome carded a
final round 71 to finish in a tie for 26th place and help Furman to
a 14th place finish on Tuesday at the Golfweek Conference Challenge
at the par-72 Spirit Hollow Golf Course.
Broome (71-76-71=218), a junior from Barrington, R.I., birdied
five holes during the final round, including three on the back nine
to finish the 54-hole tournament at two-over par. J.B. Murphy
fired an even-par 72 to finish at nine-over and in a tie for 45th
place.
The Paladins (300-303-295=898) finished 14th in the 15-team
field, but recorded their best round at seven-over on
Tuesday. Iowa (268-285-280=833) claimed first place at
31-under par with North Carolina State (283-289-276=848) in second
place and Liberty University (289-295-271=855) in third.
The Hawkeyes Chris Brant (64-75-67=206) and Vince India
(70-66-70=206) tied for individual medalist honors at 10-under.
Furman returns to action at the Big 5 Invitational October 9-10,
in Philadelphia, Pa.
