FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Furman senior Harris Barth (-1) carded a 1-under 70 Friday and is tied for 14th to lead the Paladins at Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship, which is being held at the par 71, 7,100 yard Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
Barth, a native of Atlanta, Ga., notched birdies on No. 4 and No. 6 to turn at even par. On the back, he eagled the par-5 No. 14 and added a birdie on No. 17 to finish the round three strokes behind individual leaders Tom Fischer (-4) of Ole Miss, who is ranked 44th nationally, and top-ranked Jackson Koivun (-4) of Auburn.
Senior Clark Akers (E) is tied for 22nd entering Saturday's second round. Akers shot even par with a team-high four birdies on Friday. Senior Zach Frazer (+2) carded a 73 with birdies on No. 14 and No. 18 to tie for 40th, and sophomore David Oliver IV (+5) posted a 76, tying for 53rd. Oliver eagled the par-5 No. 14 and recorded birdies on No. 2 and No. 6 in round one. Sophomore Ludvig Josefsson (+11) is in 80th place after shooting an 82. Â
Top-ranked Auburn (-10) holds a six-stroke lead over No. 12 Tennessee (-6) with 36 holes to play. Host Vanderbilt (-2), which ranks 11th nationally, sits in third, followed by Mississippi State (-1) in fourth place. N.C. State (+2) and Western Kentucky (+2) are tied for fifth. The Paladins (+6) are tied for ninth with 13th-ranked Ole Miss (+6). The 15-field tournament features six teams ranked among the nation's top 19.
The 54-hole tournament will continue on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. ET with all teams teeing off on No. 1. Furman will start at 10:23 a.m. ET and play in a group with Kentucky and individuals from Vanderbilt.Â
