WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Furman senior Harris Barth (-2) fired a 68 in Tuesday's second round of the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional, which is being held this week at the par 71, 7013 yard Bermuda Run Country Club in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Barth, a three-time All-SoCon honoree from Atlanta, Ga., birdied three holes on the front and turned at 3-under. He added a fourth birdie on No. 11 then finished out the round with a fifth birdie on No. 8 to move up 18 spots into a tie for 18th with one round to play. Virginia's Ben James (-13), who ranks third nationally, led the field with a 63 to take a 3-stroke individual lead into the final round. In Wednesday's third round, Barth will tee off of No. 1 at 10:04 a.m. and will play in a group with players from Presbyterian and Georgia Tech.
No. 3 Virginia (-27) extended its lead to six strokes on Tuesday. No. 15 Pepperdine (-21) and tenth-ranked Ole Miss (-21) are tied for second. Â
Six 54-hole regional tournaments are being conducted around the country this week. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held May 29-June 3, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
