CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- Caitlin Hollifeld scored 15 points to pace four double figure scorers and lift Western Carolina past Furman, 75-67, in Southern Conference women's basketball action Sunday afternoon at the Ramsey Center.
Hollifeld, who also claimed nine rebounds, was joined in double figures by Kaila' Shea Menendez with 12 points and Rena Wakama and Emily Clark with 11 points as the Catamounts (6-11, 4-4 SoCon) claimed their 14th consecutive win over the Paladins (6-10, 2-5 SoCon).
Kaitlin Murphy paced Furman with a game high 18 points and also chipped in five assists and three steals. Kendra Berry added 16 points for the Paladins.
The loss was the seventh straight for Furman, which concluded a brutal seven-game road stretch that began on Dec. 20 and included setbacks at SoCon frontrunner UNC Greensboro, Wake Forest, Arkansas, Chattanooga, Samford, among others.
The Paladins' will return to Timmons Arena to face Wofford on Wednesday in a 7:00 p.m. game.
Western Carolina rode solid 48.5 percent shooting (16-of-33) in the first half to 37-27 halftime advantage.
Furman rallied at the start of the second half on the strength of an 11-2 run to cut the Catamounts' lead to 39-38 following a Ayanna Randolph jump shot at the 16:41 mark, but that was as close as the Paladins could get.
A jump shot by Janae McKinney with 1:51 to go gave Western Carolina a 70-60 advantage and effectively sealed the outcome.
The Catamounts finished the game shooting 48.3 percent (29-of-60) from the field while the Paladins managed a 41.2 percent effort (41.2 percent). Western Carolina also won the rebounding battle, claiming a 39-28 advantage on the glass.
