TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – Junior Tyler Droll picked up three singles wins in the Ingram Draw (Flight 7) to lead the Furman men's tennis team at the Crimson Tide Fall Championship this weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala. 

Droll defeated Sebastian Kirmse of South Alabama, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round, then turned around to beat Derek Carpenter of Ball State, 6-2, 6-2 in the second round.  In the semi-finals, he defeated Virginia Tech's Jon Pine, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1, before falling to Ball State's Patrick Elliott, 6-4, 6-3, in the championship match of the draw.

In the same draw, freshman Norman Chang beat UAB's Nick Iznuzzi, 6-2, 6-1 in round one then beat Coby Kramer-Golinkoff of Tulane, 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2, in round two.  Patrick Elliott of Ball State defeated Chang, 6-1, 6-1, in the semi-finals.

In other singles action, junior Andrew Mellow defeated Romain Boccaert of South Alabama, 6-2, 6-4, in the consolation round of the Bryan Draw (Flight 1), and Alex Christ beat Inaki Belloso from Southern Miss., 6-4, 7-6(4), in the first round of the Namath Draw (Flight 2).

Junior Robbie Aru beat Boston College's Billy Grokenberger, 6-4, 6-2, in the opening round of the Musso Draw (Flight 4) then defeated Davidson's Robert Lightbourn, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the second round.  In the consolation round of the Hannah Draw (Flight 6), freshman Ryan Miller beat Jordan Faith from Chattanooga, 6-1, 6-1.

Furman will open the 2012 spring season at Florida State on January 21.
