Plymouth Meeting, Pa. -- Senior Austin Reeves (+5) fired a final round 68 to lead the Furman men's golf team to a third place finish on Sunday in the Big 5 Invitational at the par-70 Plymouth Country Club.
The Greenville, S.C., native birdied five holes, including three par-fours, to overcome a double bogey at No. 3 and climb into a share of ninth place at five-over par. He shared ninth with teammate Matt Brown (+5) who played the back nine at two-under to follow up a first round 73 with a final round 72.
Senior Matt Broome (+6) finished in a tie for 14th place while senior J.B. Murphy posted a final round 74 to finish at 10-over.
Sebastian Backlund of Francis Marion captured individual medalist honors at two-under par following a tournament-low 66 on Sunday. He finished one stroke ahead of Dartmouth's Peter Williamson (-1).
The Big Green (+18) claimed first place finishing six strokes ahead of second place Campbell and eight strokes ahead of the Paladins. St. John's and Pennsylvania shared fourth place at 27-over par.
Furman returns to action October 17-18, when it travels to Duluth, Ga., for the AutoTrader Collegiate Classic.
