Box Score ATHENS, GA. – Furman junior Andrew Mellow defeated #3 Wil Spencer, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) in the top singles match, but the effort was not enough to hold off 4th-ranked Georgia, as the Bulldogs topped the Paladins, 6-1, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. on Monday afternoon.
Georgia swept the doubles matches to claim the doubles point, as Sadio Doumbia and Hernus Pieters defeated 49th-ranked Furman sophomores Alex Christ and Joel Cook, 8-2, in the top match. Nathan Pasha and Ignacio Taboada combined for an 8-4 win over freshman Jacob Behal and Mellow at number two, while Wil Spencer and KU Singh beat senior Watson George and sophomore Nate Collins, 8-4, in the third doubles contest.
The Bulldogs swept the remaining singles matches, as #21 Doumbia defeated Christ, 6-1, 6-3 at number two, and #55 Singh beat Behal, 7-5, 6-2, in the third singles match-up. In the fourth-seed match, #43 Taboada notched a 6-2, 7-5 win over Cook, and #72 Pieters recorded a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over junior Robbie Aru at number five. Nathan Pasha's 6-3, 6-2 sixth-seed win over freshman Luke Synn rounded out the singles competition.
Furman (2-8) has a two-week break before the Paladins play at Winthrop on March 10 at 1 p.m.
