Daniel Island, S.C. – Senior Austin Reeves carded a two-under par 70 to maintain second place and the Furman's men's golf team carded a second round 301 to hold fifth place in the Southern Conference Men's Golf Championship at the par-72 Ralston Creek Course on Monday.
Reeves (-2), an Eastside High School product and Greenville, S.C., native posted three birdies over the final nine holes to card a two-under 34 on the back nine. He trails Chattanooga's Stephen Jaeger (-6) by four strokes after 36 holes and is three strokes in front of third place John Skeadas (+1) of Davidson.
The Mocs (+4), ranked No. 34 in the nation by Golfstat.com, shot a tournament-low 286 to open up a nine-stroke lead over second place Samford (+13) with 18 holes remaining in the 54-hole tournament. Georgia Southern (+15), College of Charleston (+17) and Furman (+20) rounded out the top five.
Furman's J.B. Murphy and Matt Brown fired rounds of 76 and 78, respectively, to hold a share of 26th place at seven-over par after two rounds.
Final round action is set to get underway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The Paladins, playing with Wofford and College of Charleston, are set to tee-off beginning at 9 a.m.
