Box Score Furman Men's Lacrosse Vs #17 Lehigh Postgame Interviews / Highlights Video
Greenville, S.C. – On a day full of firsts for Furman men's lacrosse, the Paladins dropped their first-ever game to No. 17/19 Lehigh, 13-6. The Paladins fall to 0-1 on the young season, while the Mountain hawks move to 1-0.
Lehigh came out swinging early in the game, as they jumped out to the early 2-0 lead. But, Matt Geran will go down in the Paladin history book as the first Furman lacrosse player to score a goal in a game, when his goal with 5:29 remaining in the first quarter cut the Lehigh lead to 2-1 and gave Furman the momentum it needed to tie the game at two on a Clay Adams goal with 4:46 remaining in the first quarter. Lehigh had a chance to take the lead heading into the second quarter, but Frazer Kinsley's fourth save of the period squashed the Mountain Hawks' chances.
The Mountain Hawks countered Furman's attack by scoring three quick goals early in the second quarter to take a 5-2 lead. Adams then scored his second goal of the day with 3:32 remaining, to cut the Lehigh lead to 5-3. However, the Mountain Hawks would stretch their lead with seven seconds remaining in the first half to take a 6-3 lead into halftime.
The Paladins scored quickly in the third quarter on Kenny Meinsen's first goal of the season, to again cut into the Lehigh lead at 6-4. However, Lehigh then scored four unanswered to give the Mountain Hawks a 10-4 lead heading in to the final period of the day.
Furman again scored quickly in the fourth quarter, this time on a goal by Graham Dabbs with 12:54 remaining. However, Lehigh scored three goals before Furman could answer with Dabbs' second goal of the quarter and second of the day, to make the final score 13-6.
Furman will face another tough task in their first-year schedule, as No. 1 North Carolina comes to town on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 2:00 p.m.
