Box Score Washington, D.C. – Kenny Meinsen and Chase Hancock each scored a goal, but Army proved too much for the Paladins, as Furman lacrosse fell 12-2 on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C. at Catholic University's Cardinal Stadium. The game was played in conjunction with Face-Off For A Cause, hosted by the Wounded Warrior Project.
The Paladins fall to 0-4 on the season, while Army picks up its second-straight win to move to 2-1 on the year.
Kenny Meinsen continued his scoring streak, turning in his fourth goal of the year in as many games. Chase Hancock scored his second goal of the season and Mark Cohen added his first assist. Jake Gavin, making his first collegiate start for the Paladins, recorded 13 saves.
Army scored the first goal of the day just 1:30 into the game to take an early 1-0 lead. The Black Knights scored their second goal of the quarter with 4:17 remaining, only to have the lead cut in half on Chase Hancock's goal with 3:02 remaining in the quarter. The Black Knights then recorded three consecutive goals in the first half to take a 5-1 lead into halftime.
Army continued the scoring in the second half, netting four-straight goals to stretch the lead to 9-1, before Kenny Meinsen scored on a Mark Cohen assist with 1:28 remaining in the third quarter to give Furman its second and final goal of the day. Furman then limited Army to three goals in the fourth quarter to make the final score 12-2, Army.
Junior Black Knight attackman John Glesener led all players with four goals, while sophomore Will Mazzone and rookie Cole Johnson each registered a hat trick for Army.
The Paladins travel to Bellarmine on Saturday, March 1 for a 1:00 p.m. contest, before returning home to Paladin Stadium to face Michigan on March 8 at noon.
