GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Whitney Bunn scored 14 points to lead a contingent of four double figure scorers, and Furman used strong defense in the second half to race past Queens, 83-31, in women's basketball exhibition game action Thursday evening at Timmons Arena.
The Paladins led 46-23 at intermission and limited the Royals to just three points in the third quarter and five points in the final period in cruising to the victory. Queens hit on just 3-of-28 shots (10.7 percent) in the second half and wilted in the face of Furman's defense, which helped force 27 turnovers.
Bunn was whistled for two early fouls but returned to tally her game high 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 2-of-4 from 3-point range. The junior All-Southern Conference performer also tallied six assists for the Paladins, who got 12 points from Allison Beasley and 11 points apiece from Holli Wilkins and Tiara Wood. Cierra Carter finished with nine points, a team high eight rebounds, and three blocks.
Freshman D'Asia Brown had eight points, and redshirt sophomore Meagan Tucker, seeing her first action after sitting out last year following her transfer from Auburn, finished with seven points, six assists, and three steals.
Carmen Richardson was the only Queens player to reach double figures with 11 points.
Furman turned in a solid shooting performance, making good on 32-of-61 attempts (52.5 percent), including 9-of-23 from 3-point range (39.1 percent).
The Royals shot just 21.4 percent for the game (12-of-56).
Furman tips off its regular season next Friday when it plays host to Davidson in a 5:00 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.
