Coastal Carolina Downs Furman, 14-8

Greenville, S.C. – Behind a 5-0 second half run, Coastal Carolina downed Furman women's lacrosse, 14-8, on Friday night in Paladin Stadium. The loss closes out Furman's non-conference portion of the schedule with a 5-3 record in its inaugural season, while the win moves Coastal Carolina to 4-3 on the year.

Furman was led by Meg Lingo with three goals, while Alyssa Cooper added two. Ashley Trice and Britt Douglass each tallied a goal and an assist, and Paige Gamble added a goal for the Paladins. Molly Marshall led Furman with four ground balls and six caused turnovers, while Maggie Friel recorded eight saves.

Coastal Carolina was led by Jen Cosgrove with a game-high five goals, while Alicia Geiter and Keri White each also added a hat trick. Jenna Stover and Courtney Genovese picked up a team-high three ground balls, while White led all players with four draw controls.

Coastal Carolina opened the scoring with a goal less than one minute into the game, before Paige Gamble knotted the game at one with 28:20 remaining. The Chanticleers then rattled off five-straight goals to take a 6-1 lead with 18:32 remaining. Over the next 13 minutes, Meg Lingo scored three-straight goals for the Paladins to cut the lead to 6-4 with 5:55 remaining, before Britt Douglass added a free position goal with 4:58 remaining to send the teams into half time with Coastal Carolina on top, 6-5.

Out of halftime, Coastal Carolina opened on a 5-0 run over the first nine minutes of the half to push the lead to 11-5, before Alyssa Cooper netted her third goal of the season to cut the lead to 11-6 with 19:07 remaining. Coastal Carolina pushed the lead back to six with 13:59 remaining, before Furman used back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 12-8 with 9:15 remaining. Coastal Carolina's defense held strong, however, not allowing Furman to score again and holding on for the eventual 14-8 win.

Furman is back in action on Wednesday, March 25, when the Paladins open ASun play against Kennesaw State at 6:00 p.m. in Paladin Stadium.
