Furman Dispatches North Greenville, 69-39

Box Score

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Holli Wilkins scored 20 points and Furman made its return home a happy one by dispatching North Greenville, 59-39, in women's basketball play Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

After completing a season-long five-game road stretch at Virginia Tech on Wednesday, Furman (7-7) played its first home game in nearly a month and squared its season record behind a total team effort that saw all 10 players in uniform register double figure minutes.

Wilkins notched her 20 points in just 26 minutes of action and sat out the final 15 minutes as head coach Jackie Carson emptied her bench.

Cierra Carter was the only other Paladin to reach double figures, tallying 10 points to go along with a game high nine rebounds.  De'Asia Brown added eight points, and Sydney Bozeman and Shianne Goodwin contributed seven points apiece.

Divonnie Powell led North Greenville with eight points.

The Paladins, who entered the contest with a -7.2 rebounding differential, overwhelmed the Crusaders on the boards, 59-38, behind Carter and Kaitlyn Duncan, who matched her season high with eight rebounds.

Furman raced to a 22-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in cruising to the victory.

The Paladins shot just 34.2 percent from the field, hitting on 26-of-76 shots, but limited the Crusaders to just 17-of-60 shooting (28.3 percent).

The game marked the beginning of a stretch of four games in eight days for Furman, which will return to the court on Monday with a 5:30 p.m. clash at North Carolina Central.  The Paladins tip off Southern Conference play on Thursday, entertaining ETSU in a 7:00 p.m. contest in Timmons Arena.
