Box Score GREENVILLE, S.C. – Yale downed Furman, 5-2, in men's tennis action Saturday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Bulldogs won two out of three doubles matches to claim the opening point. Alex Hagermoser teamed up with Jason Brown for a 6-2 win at flight over junior Adam Steryous and sophomore Cameron Green at two doubles, then Martin Svenning and Photos Photiades beat sophomores Stefan Rhodes and Josh Pistorius, 6-2, at number three. In the top-seeded match-up, the Paladins were victorious, as seniors Matt Browne and Ben Horst topped Fedor Andrienko and Stefan Doehler, 6-4.
In singles play, Horst evened the score with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Dennis Wang at flight four, then Yale took a 2-1 lead after Hagermoser posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory versus Browne at flight two. The Paladins again tied the score when Adam Steryous beat Svenning, 6-2, 6-2, in the number one contest, but the Bulldogs captured the final three matches for the win.
Andrienkio held on for a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6(3) advantage versus Green at flight three, and Brown posted a 6-3, 6-3, win against Pistorius at number five. In the flight six match-up, Photiades downed freshman Alex Steryous, 7-5, 6-2.
Furman (3-5) will play at Duke on Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.
